04/12/2015 - College PREP - Plano, TX Ryan continues to show well on the diamond. Behind the dish, he sits in well with flexion and athletic actions. Soft hands and a quick exchange fire accurate throws as he gains ground toward his target at 2B (pop times now as 2.11). At 3B, Ryan moves fluidly around the GB as he works to field it out in front. He funnels smoothly with a quick transfer, firing strong throws to 1B. With the bat, this righty has a balanced approach as he remains selective with good zone awareness. He likes the pitch on the inner 1/2 whipping the barrel through the zone and pulling it with pop. Picard is a versatile talent who can make things happen in many aspects of the game. He has a bright future ahead of him.

11/07/2013 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City Ryan is a young C/3B that showed mainly as a backstop in his most recent Baseball Factory outing at Pirate City. Behind the dish, he focused his work on his setup and receiving. Throughout the week, Ryan asked a lot of questions and showed a will to learn and a good work ethic. His best defensive attribute came when flashed a pop time at 2.2 seconds. With the bat, he showed a solid square set up and level path. With more lower half and a through finish with two hands, Ryan will improve his hit ability. Overall - Picard is a nice young man that has the will to improve and the frame in which to build on.

07/15/2013 - College PREP - Plano, TX Ryan is a solid catcher that will graduate in 2016. He utilizes his athletic feet well in working in line to his target through a clean transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times showed a range of 2.38-2.50 with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Receiving / blocking skills show as playable tools at the next level as he continues to improve. At the plate, Picard shows a balanced approach with rhythm. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact, mainly to the pull side. For hitting grades to continue to improve, he needs to work to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. With 3 years to further develop, Ryan has abilities with a lot of room to improve

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
