Official Scouting Report

  • 1BPosition Projection

12/27/2018 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Ryan is a coachable 1B prospect who worked hard on his skills during his time at the Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City. In the field, Ryan shows efficient footwork and fields in a low position, working to make accurate throws to his target. increasing his lateral range can help Ryan improve defensively. At the plate, this LHH sets up in an athletic stance and takes a short stride. He takes a compact swing with decent bat speed, leading to consistent contact. Ryan can improve as a hitter by activating his hands more in his load. Overall, Ryan is a solid prospect who has the potential to further develop his skills on the field.

10/28/2018 - College PREP - Corpus Christi , TX Ryan is a thick and athletic 2020 1B prospect. At 1B, Ryan is on time with his prep step, anticipates the ball off the bat, and has range on both sides of the glove. He works off the bag well, has efficient footwork on double plays, and picks the ball well. At the plate, Ryan starts in a crouched stance and loads his hands back into the drive position. He has quick hands and hits the ball hard to the pull side. Ryan will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

07/10/2018 - Cape Cod Select Training & Competition - Session 1 (Ages 14-18) Ryan is a talented 1B/LHP prospect who has a strong build. Offensively, Ryan has a square, athletic stance with a centered balance and firm front side. He has fluid rhythm with a good load and short, square stride as he uses his lower half throughout his swing. Ryan shows explosive bat speed with a short, direct swing path. He consistently lands the barrel to the baseball producing hard contact. Ryan uses all fields and can drive the ball to each gap with power. In the field, Ryan plays with firm footwork and makes the routine plays. He fields the ball in a square position with deep hands. He throws from a 3/4 arm slot producing strong throws across the diamond. Ryan has a feel for the position and does a nice job picking baseballs in the dirt. On the mound, Ryan has balanced mechanics throwing from a high 3/4 arm slot. He stays square to home plate with the proper stride length and a controlled landing. Ryan can benefit from a stronger finish towards his target. Overall, Ryan is a well-rounded prospect who has a versatile skill set.

03/11/2018 - College PREP - Corpus Christi, TX Ryan is a stocky, strong 1B who will graduate in 2020. At 1B, he displays smooth / clean actions. Feet are active and he displays proper footwork around the bag. Glove action is soft /sure and presents well out front. Range will improve as he improves foot quickness. Throws area accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate he shows an open setup. Hands are quick (82 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He has strength in his swing and stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. With 2 years to further develop, Ryan has abilities with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
