07/24/2013 - California Select Training & Competition (Ages 14-18) Ryan continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. . Foot speed is average as indicated by his 7.5 60 time. Feet are light / active as he works to square balls up and displays clean hands. He moves well laterally, displaying range in the MIF. For defensive grade to continue to improve, he needs to attack balls and play through more. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength and carry through a long toss program. At the plate, hitting grade has improved through a balanced setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path, creating extension. He makes consistent contact and finds a way to get on base as he displays a solid eye at the plate. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. At the event, he was 3 for 6. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and is a hard worker.

03/17/2013 - National Tryout - Carson, CA Yet again, Ryan ran his best sixty to date. The sophomore 2B continues to show progress, especially on the defensive side of the game. His fluid footwork, soft/sure hands, and clean/quick exchange, are all tools needed from a middle infielder - and Ryan has them. On the offensive side, he has a repeatable deliver, while generating average bat speed. He is a contact type hitter that should become a situational expert - bunt/sac bunt/hit and run. As Ryan fills out, look for his numbers to increase in all aspects of the game. Ryan projects well as a defensive minded 2B, that will do whatever it takes offensively for the team to win.

11/08/2012 - Baseball Factory Training & Competition in Arizona Santarone continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. Defensive grade in the MIF has improved as well as he works to square up balls, plays through well while presenting hands out front. At the plate, power numbers have improved as he shows a feel for the barrel with baseball jumping off his bat when centered. Swing path is level as he makes consistent contact. At the event, he was 3 for 7 with 3 BB as he displays a solid eye.

09/23/2012 - College PREP - Phoenix, AZ Ryan is a young 2B that will graduate in 2015. In the field, his arm action is loose with sure hands and quick feet. Ryan shows an aggressive approach with a quick first step coming to get the ball. He will need to work on breaking down to control his body, which will allow him to field the ball on the left center of his body consistently. At the plate, Ryan has a square setup with a short/square stride. He displays a good load, uses his lower half, and shows the ability to use the entire field. Ryan can work on a looser grip, continuing to drive through the ball, and keeping his weight centered to improve hitting grades. With 3 years to further develop Ryan shows good athletic abilities and time to improve on the areas above.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
