01/17/2020 - 2020 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Ryan is a SS prospect who showed well at the Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament. In the field, Ryan takes a good first step and shows quick footwork. He gets into an athletic position and fields the ball out in front with soft hands. He makes a clean exchange and gets rid of the ball quickly, keeping his throws accurate with carry through his target. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a crouched stance and takes a soft stride. He gets his hands activated in a smooth load and hits against a strong front side. He takes a compact swing with good extension, leading to consistent contact and solid line drives. Overall, Ryan is a talented prospect who has the potential to contribute at the next level.

01/18/2019 - 2019 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Ryan is a talented infielder who has a solid all-around skill-set. This 2021 grad held his own and showed well during his time at the Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament. With the bat, this righty displays an open stance with loose hands and rhythm to load. Swing is on-plane to and through the zone as he connects and hits line-drives consistently. He likes the pitch middle in and pulls it with some pop. Even more power potential is in the tank as he continues to engage his lower 1/2 even more throughout the swing. At SS, Ryan is aggressive and takes good angles to attack the ground ball. He tracks the GB into his mitt, gathers well and has a clean exchange to throw. Throws show some carry and accuracy across the diamond. Scialabba has upside with still a ton of time to develop and get stronger.

06/20/2017 - College PREP - Bridgeport, CT Ryan continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. In the MIF, defensive abilities are well above average as he displays quick/athletic actions. Feet are aggressive as he works around and plays through balls with his body. Glove action is soft/sure and he presents well out front. Range is a plus as he moves well to both sides and covers a lot of ground. Hands/feet work well together as he gets rid of the baseball quickly with accuracy across the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 7.32 runner. At the plate, hitting/power potential have improved through an open setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. Lower half works well through the swing with power continuing to improve as he adds overall body strength.

07/19/2016 - College PREP - Bridgeport, CT Ryan is a two way player (SS/RHP) who will graduate in 2021. In the field, Ryan uses his feet efficiently as he has a controlled approach to the ball. He gets around the ball and fields out in front with soft, sure hands. He has a good glove exchange and uses the proper footwork on his throws which allows them to stay on-line. Ryan can improve his defensive skills by playing through the ball more and incorporating a long toss program to improve his arm strength. At the plate, Ryan shows good balance in the box and has a square stride. His hands are activated in his load and he launches on time. His hips and hands work well together as he takes a direct route to the ball. He keeps his hands inside the ball well and sprays the ball all over the field. Ryan can improve as a hitter by using his lower half more in his swing and extending his swing more through the zone. On the mound, Ryan displays good mechanics as he gathers over the rubber, separates on time and extends through with a controlled landing. He has a three pitch mix with his fastball sitting from 66-68mph. His breaking ball ranges from 56-60mph with and 11-5 break. He throws his changeup with fastball arm speed and it sits from 63-65mph. Ryan can improve as a pitcher by using his lower half more in his delivery. Overall, Ryan is a talented young prospect who will be one to keep an eye on as he continues to develop.

12/27/2015 - Baseball Factory Winter Classic - Session 2 Ryan Scialabba may be a name to remember, as this young guy does a lot of things very well on the diamond. Starting with the intangibles, Ryan controls everything he can control and works exceptionally hard showing strong aptitude implementing adjustments immediately. Defensively in the middle infield, he showed great feet to get his body into position to make plays with his hands in front. His glove played soft/sure and he threw with some carry across the diamond. Offensively, he showed rhythm with his quiet & disciplined approach. His head remained still through the swing path, allowing for strong barrel accuracy. Ryan even jumped on the bump to throw an inning, mixing a FB and CB with 10/4 shape for strikes. All in all - Ryan has advanced instincts, and baseball savvy, and the best part, he's only in 7th grade.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
