01/18/2019 - 2019 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Ryan is an athletic (6'1"/175) OF who has speed and a solid all-around skill-set. In the OF, he takes a quick first step and covers a ton of ground (60 yard = 6.60). Actions are smooth as he works through the ball and gains ground toward his target with carry and accuracy on his throws. With the bat, this righty steps in showing an open stance and loose/relaxed hands in his setup. He looks to jumps on 1st pitch FB's and battles every AB. Swing is level to and through the zone as he connects and squares the ball up with some pop (exit velocity = 88 mph). This 2021 grad has a ton of upside and is one to keep an eye on over the next couple of years.

12/20/2017 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 1 (Ages 14-18) Ryan continues to show a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now an outstanding runner at 6.94. At the plate, power potential is now well above average through an open setup. Hands are quick (84 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside well, utilizing all fields and shows a feel for the barrel with gap-to-gap pop. At the event, he was 2 for 5 with 2 2B and 2 BB as he shows a strong recognition to the strike zone. In the OF, he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind but needs to play through more with momentum to his target. Range is a plus as he reads balls well off the bat and covers a lot of ground. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

07/18/2017 - College PREP - Sauget (St. Louis), IL James is a lean, athletic OF/2B who has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed is well above average as indicated by his 60 time of 7.01. In the OF, he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind balls and plays through balls with momentum to his target. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally and covers a lot of ground. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At 2B, he displays smooth / athletic actions. Feet are aggressive as he attacks balls and plays through well with his body. Hands are soft / sure and he presents well out front. At the plate, he continues to shine through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. With 4 years to further develop, James has the makings of a special type player with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
