Official Scouting Report

  • OFPosition Projection

11/14/2021 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Pittsburgh, PA Ryan showed improvements both offensively and defensively during his last workout with The Factory. All tool grades improved, he ran his fastest 60 to date at 7.22, and had an arm velocity that increased to 85 MPH. In the OF, Ryan has quick feet, good range, and soft/presentable hands. He gets good reads off the bat, makes plays cleanly, and has a strong/accurate arm with carry through to his target. Offensively, Ryan has an open/athletic stance, quick hands, and fast bat speed. He is a strong hitter with good barrel accuracy, and he works the ball gap to gap while tapping into his lower 1/2.

12/27/2019 - Baseball Factory Winter Classic (Ages 12-14) Ryan continues to shine on the diamond. In the OF, he displays smooth / fluid actions. Feet are aggressive as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind balls and plays through with momentum to his target. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. At the plate, he shows a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 72 mph. Fastball showed a range of 66-72 mph with cutting action. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with arm side run. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

10/06/2019 - Interactive Video Program - Washington (Pittsburgh), PA Ryan is a strong, athletic, 2-way player who plays OF and RHP. In the OF, Ryan has active footwork, he takes good routes and angles to the ball, and his hands are soft. He makes plays, fields aggressively, and has a strong/accurate arm to his cut off man. On the mound, Ryan has good balance, and a long/clean arm circle. He separates his hands on time, lands with a proper length stride, and competes in the zone. At the plate, Ryan has a balanced set-up, an athletic stance, and a fluid swing. He has a direct barrel, makes hard contact, and he uses his lower body. Solid skills can get even better with work on the following.

Outfield
1. Glove side lead
2. Crow hop
Pitching
1. Lower body
2. Off-speed
Offense
1. Extension
2. Let ball travel

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
