08/01/2018 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Ryder continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and he has a promising future on the diamond. At the plate, hitting / power potential has improved through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. At SS, he continues to shine as he displays clean / smooth actions. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork as he works to square ground balls up. Glove action is soft / sure as he presents well out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. Throws are accurate with zip (85 mph velocity) across the diamond. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 79 mph. Fastball shows a range of 76-79 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to develop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable.

05/26/2018 - College PREP - Salt Lake City, UT Ryder is an athletic SS/RHP who is a prospect on the diamond. Foot speed is outstanding as indicated by his 60 time of 6.94. At SS, defensive abilities are solid as he displays smooth / clean actions. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork and plays through with his body. Glove action is clean and presents well out front. He shows off his athletic abilities on his feeds / turns of the double play. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally and covers a lot of ground. At the plate, he continues to shine, displaying well above average hitting potential through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. On the mound, delivery is sound / repeatable allowing his arm action to work free to the plate. Fastball showed a range of 77-78 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with late / sharp break and shows as a quality pitch. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but throws too hard, resembling fastball. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. With 2 years to further develop, Ryder has the makings of a special type player and will get looks from the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
