Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 1B/RHPPosition Projection

07/05/2018 - California Select Training & Competition - Session 1 (Ages 12-14) Rylan is an athletic and talented 2023 2-way prospect. At 1B, Rylan works off the bag and gets the center of his body into a good position to field the ball in front of him. Being on time with his prep step and presenting a low/early glove will allow him to work from the ground up when fielding ground balls. Continuing to work on agilitiES will increase his first step quickness to the ball and help to create more range at the position. At the plate, Rylan starts in a tall stance, loads his hands back into the drive position, and keeps a quiet head. He rotates his lower half into the ball and shows the ability to pull the ball. Continuing to attack the inside part of the ball and keeping his head down at contact will allow him to stay balanced throughout the swing. On the bump, Rylan gathers over the rubber, separates on time, and extends thru his delivery. Developing a secondary pitch, such as a change up, will help him to off set his fastball. Rylan will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

11/09/2017 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition in Arizona (Ages 12-14) Rylan is a long, lanky 1B/LHPP prospect who always plays with a good attitude and wants to get better. He shows the ability to pound the zone with his fastball and uses it to work ahead of hitters and ultimately put them away. He shows good poise on the mound and is able to work out of jams by executing his pitches. He works from a 3/4 arm slot which creates some deception and stays inline to the plate to get to a consistent release point. At the plate, he shows a square, athletic stance with a strong load and on time stride to launch through the zone. His lower half generates bat speed and pop as he makes consistent contact, hitting the ball hard to the pull side. Leveling out his swing path will turn some pop ups into base hits. At first, he has efficient footwork to move around the bag to receive throws and make plays. He squares up to field with presented hands and keeps everything in front to be a reliable defender. Rylan is a prospect we look forward to watching as he continues his development.

10/01/2017 - Interactive Video Program - Spokane, WA Rylan is a L/L at 1B/LHP. Defensively at 1B, he shows pre-pitch movement and flashes pocket awareness. He fields the ball clean, gathers well and makes aggressive throws to his target. On the mound, this lefty gathers over the rubber with a 2-pitch mix. He delivers a from a hi 3/4 arm slot and fills up the zone with strikes. With the stick, Rylan shows a quiet setup. He swings aggressively through the zone and looks to drive the ball with power. Overall abilities in his game will improve with work on the following.

Defense
1. Quick footwork
2. Play low
3. Develop soft hands
Pitching
1. Develop an off speed pitch
2. Lower 1/2 drive off rubber
3. Arm strength (long toss)
Offense
1. Develop a load
2. Develop rhythm
3. Improve bat speed/hands

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
