Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 3B/RHPPosition Projection

07/10/2015 - 2015 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's National East Rylan is a solid, strong 3B/RHP with a bright future ahead on the diamond and shows as a 2016 draft guy at both positions. Foot speed is above average as indicated by his 7.16 60 time. At the plate is where he showed best through an athletic setup. Hands are quick, generating superior bat speed through a direct / level swing path. He has strength in his swing and works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields with HR pop to all fields. The baseball explodes off the bat when centered, creating bat spin. At 3B, feet are active as he works around balls and plays through with his body. Hands / feet work well together through the fielding process. He moves well laterally, displaying range and soft / sure hands. Arm strength is at a pro level as indicated by his top velocity of 94 mph. Throws display life, accuracy, and on line carry as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. On the mound, delivery is sound / repeatable as he shows good tempo through a strong balance point, allowing his arm action to work quick and free to the plate. Arm action is loose, free, and quick. Arm strength is at a pro level as indicated by his top velocity of 93 mph. Fastball shows a range of 89-93 mph on a downhill plane with arm side run. Slider is dirty displaying 11/5 shape with late break and shows as a tremendous pitch that will get outs at the next level. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape, also showing as a quality pitch but is slower in velocity. Command / control is tremendous as he locates well to both sides of the plate and changes speeds well. Thomas has a tremendous upside and will get looks from the top collegiate coaches and pro scouts with his abilities in the field and on the mound.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
