11/12/2011 - Accelerated Hitting Weekend (Pre-High School) Ryland shows a very strong athletic stance, which allows him to get into his power position early. Being in the power position early allows Ryland to attack the baseball, but also causes him to lunge forward on occasion. He will need to really work on being patient during his swing and letting the baseball travel into his hitting zone, and lunging to reach it. Ryland tends to drag his elbow during his swing causing his hands to disconnect from the backside of his body, and his swing becomes arm dominant. Ryland does display the ability to get his barrel into a good position to hit behind and through the baseball, which can lead to untapped power if he focuses on using his lower half during the swing. As the weekend progressed Ryland began to show good backside movements in his lower half, which is a very good start to effectively using the lower half.
