08/11/2019 - College PREP - Waipahu (Honolulu), HI Ryson is a RHP/3B that will graduate in 2022. On the mound, Ryson shows a 3-pitch mix with a FB/CB/SL. FB shows some tail, the CB is 11-5 with medium break, and the SL has 10-4 action. Pitching, Ryson gathers over the rubber well and shows a free arm action going back. He keeps his stride square and rotates to the target getting good extension as he throws to the plate. At 3B, Ryson shows effective footwork and fields the ball with confidence. His exchanges are clean as he makes throws with consistent accuracy. At the plate he sets up tall and square getting loaded with smooth rhythm. He gets his lower half through delivering a fast bat that is direct to the ball. Ryson makes hard and consistent contact with a line drive approach. Ryson shows solid raw tools that will serve him well as he continues to grow and mature.

11/08/2018 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition in Arizona (Ages 14-18) Ryson continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. At the plate, hitting/power potential has improved through a tall setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will continue to improve as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. At 3B, he displays smooth/fluid actions. Feet are active as he works to square balls up but needs to attack, playing through more with his body. Glove action is soft/clean but needs to present more out front. Range will increase as he continues to improve foot quickness. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 68 mph. Fastball shows a range of 67-68 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and plays the game hard.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
