Official Scouting Report

  • 1BPosition Projection

01/17/2020 - 2020 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Safwan is a strong 1B prospect who continued to showcase his skills at the Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament. In the field, Safwan fields in a square position and works to keep his throws accurate to his target. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a square stance and takes a square stride. He gets into his load on time and drives through well with his lower half. He takes a smooth swing with fast bat speed, leading to consistent contact and good raw power. Overall, Safwan is a solid prospect who has the potential to further develop his skills on the field.

12/07/2019 - Mid-Atlantic Regional Offensive Skills Weekend (Ages 14-18) Safwan is a 1B prospect who worked hard on his skills during the Accelerated Training Weekend. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a tall stance and takes his stride on time. He is fluid getting into his load and hits against a strong front side. He takes a level swing with good bat speed, leading to loud contact and solid gap to gap pop. Taking a shorter stride can help Safwan improve as a hitter. Overall, Safwan is a solid prospect who should find success during his junior season.

06/22/2019 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Safwan is a strong 1B prospect who worked hard on his skills during his time at the Omaha National World Series. In the field, he shows active footwork and presents his glove out front to field. He has a quick release and allows his throws to remain accurate through his target but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. Safwan can improve as a 1B by improving his footwork around the bag. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an athletic stance and takes a short stride to the ball. He is smooth getting into his load and comes through the zone well with his lower half. He takes a direct swing to the ball with fast bat speed which leads to hard contact. Safwan can improve his power as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. Overall, Safwan is very coachable and a talented athlete who has the skill-set that will translate into the next level.

02/18/2019 - College PREP - Brentwood (Long Island), NY Safwan is a tall, solid, and strong 1B/RHP who has a promising future on the diamond. At the plate is where he shows best through a squared setup. Hands are quick (83 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields, flashing gap-to-gap pop. At 1B, he displays smooth/clean actions. Feet are active and he displays proper footwork around the bag. Glove action is clean but needs to present more out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. On the mound, delivery is sound/repeatable allowing his arm action to work free to the plate. Fastball showed a range of 63-64 mph. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with tailing action. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. With 2 years to further develop, Safwan has potential with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
