  • RHP/SSPosition Projection

10/06/2019 - College PREP - Washington (Pittsburgh), PA Sam is a RHP/SS prospect who continues to showcase his skills on the field. On the mound, Sam gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a quick arm and extends through his release, finishing with his chest over his front knee. Sam shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 81mph with sinking action. Breaking ball sits from 67-69mph with sharp 11-5 break. Changeup sits from 74-76mph with tailing action as he throws with deceptive arm speed. In the field, Sam shows efficient footwork and is agile moving to the ball. He gets into an athletic position and fields the ball out in front with soft hands. He makes a clean exchange and gains momentum well on his throws, keeping them accurate and on-line to his target. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a square stance and takes a short stride. He is fluid getting into his load and hits against a strong front side. He takes a level swing with decent bat speed, leading to solid line drives. Overall, Sam is a solid prospect who has the potential to contribute at the next level.

12/27/2018 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Sam has made impressive strides in his game in all areas. He shows feel for the game and has greatly improve his arm strength and power at the plate. He displays athletic actions in the field with efficient feet and agile lateral movement. His range is extended to both sides and he shows soft hands to field with an accurate arm. He has a knack for making hard contact at the plate with a level swing and fast bat speed. His strong lower half helps generate pop and he hits line drives to all fields. On the bump, he features a FB up to 77mph and a 10-4 CB in the high 60's. He is confident on the mound and tries to work ahead of hitters with his fastball. Elongating his stride and showing a loose arm stroke will help improve velocity and movement. Sam is an intriguing prospect with lots of peotential on the field.

10/07/2018 - College PREP - Washington, PA Sam is an athletic 2B prospect who will graduate in 2020. In the field, Sam shows active footwork and is agile moving to the ball. He gets into a low position and fields the ball out in front. He throws from a low 3/4 angle and keeps his throws accurate and on-line to his target. Sam can improve defensively by quickening his exchange. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an athletic stance and takes a square stride. He is smooth getting into his load and drives through well with his lower half. He takes a level swing with decent bat speed which leads to solid gap to gap contact. Increasing his bat speed can help Sam improve as a hitter. Overall, Sam is a solid prospect who has the potential to further develop his skills on the field.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
