09/25/2019 - Arizona Sophomore Fall Classic Sam continues to show as a top prospect on the diamond with improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. In the OF, defensive abilities are now well above average as he displays smooth / clean actions. Feet are active as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind balls and plays through with momentum to his target. Glove action is soft / sure and presents well out front. Range will increase as he continues to improve foot quickness. Throws are accurate with zip to his target as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. At the plate, hitting / power potential is now excellent through an athletic setup. Hands are quick (86 mph exit velocity) and works through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 83 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with late sharp break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sinking action. Off speed stuff show as quality pitches that will get outs. Control is well above average as throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a great personality, is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

08/14/2019 - National Tryout Plus - Trenton, NJ Sam continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and he has a promising future on the diamond. At the plate, hitting / power potential has improved, now showing outstanding abilities through a squared / athletic setup. Hands are quick (87 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel and utilizes all fields with gap-to-gap pop. In the OF, he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He work to get behind balls but needs to play through with momentum to his target. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 82 mph. Fastball shows good arm side run. Breaking ball sits from 67-68 mph with 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with arm side run. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. He can improve as a pitcher by long tossing to build up his arm strength through a long toss program.

01/18/2019 - 2019 Baseball Factory All-America Pre-Season Rookie Tournament Sam is a RHP/OF prospect who showcased his skills at the All-America Pre-Season Rookie Tournament. On the mound, Sam starts with a simple rock step and gathers over the rubber. He is fluid separating his hands and works with a clean arm, staying inline towards the plate. Sam shows a two pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 76mph with sinking action. Breaking ball sits from 61-64mph with 11-5 break. In the field, Sam takes a good first step and displays smooth footwork. He gets into a low position and fields the ball out in front with sure hands. He makes a clean exchange and gets rid of the ball quickly, keeping his throws accurate with life across the diamond. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an open stance and takes a square stride. He gets his hands activated in a simple load and remains centered in his lower half. He makes consistent contact with the ball and flashes gap to gap pop. With three more years to develop, Sam has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.

09/26/2018 - Arizona Freshman Fall Classic Sam is a lean, athletic RHP/OF who has a tremendous future on the diamond. At the plate is where he shows best, displaying well above average hitting / power potential through an open setup. Hands are quick (82 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields and shows a feel for the barrel, flashing gap-to-gap pop. In the OF, he displays fluid / athletic actions. Feet are aggressive as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind balls but needs to play through more with momentum to his target. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 76-78 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to develop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. With 3 years to further develop, Sam has the makings of a special type player and will get looks from the collegiate coaches as he continues to progress his game.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
