07/25/2018 - Under Armour Southwest Championships 17U, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Sam continues to show progress in his baseball abilities. At 2B, he displays smooth fluid actions. Feet are aggressive as he attacks balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is soft and presents well out front. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally and covers a lot of ground. Hands / feet work well together as he gets rid of the baseball quickly with accuracy on his throws. He will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he continues to shine through an athletic setup. Hands are quick (80 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball utilizing all fields and has strength in his swing through a line drive approach. At the event, he was 3 for 9. Mental makeup may be his best tool as he plays the game the right way.

12/27/2017 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Sam continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At 2B, he displays proper footwork as he works to square balls up and tracks balls well. Hands are soft / sure but will benefit by presenting more out front. Feet are aggressive as he attacks balls but needs to play through with his body. He shows off his athletic abilities on his feeds of the double play. Range will increase as he continues to improve foot quickness. Throws are accurate with carry but will aid in building more arm strength though a long toss program. At the plate, he continues to shine through an open setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel with power showing best to the pull side. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

08/27/2017 - College PREP - Wilmington, DE Sam showed solid overall improvements during his last workout in Wilmington, DE. He improved defensively, arm grades and hitting grades spiked, and he also increased raw velocity. Sam showed active/agile movements in the INF, soft hands, and he fields from the right in an athletic position. He works the double play well, has a clean exchange, and throws with accuracy and strength to his target. At the plate, Sam has an athletic/open stance, good balance, and he swings in good rhythm. He has a level swing plane, makes hard/consistent contact, and uses his lower body. A looser grip and added physical strength will help offense continue to improve.

11/10/2016 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City Sam is a hard working and hustle oriented player, who showcased his skills in Pirate City as a left handed hitting 2B. Defensively he showed a loose and accurate arm which works well for the position. Feet were very active, as he showed impressive range to his glove hand and forehand side on ground balls. Fielding grounders with lower hips will help him present his hands out in front more and get the hops that he wants. Offensively, he showed the ability to hit to all fields with consistency, as he kept his head still throughout his swing and kept a firm front side along with a solid base. Getting his hands into a load position pre-pitch, will help with power to all fields for this lefty. Overall, Sam is a hard-nosed player, who showed high energy and a passion for the game, which will carry him a long way towards being the best player he can be.

11/05/2015 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City Sam is a LHH MIF who works hard on his skills. He is a very coachable player who has willingness to learn and gives 100% every day. Defensively, he has active/efficient footwork and is aggressive to come and get the GB. He presents hit glove, works from the ground-up, and makes the plays with soft hands. Playing through the ball more will help to get more into his throws. As a hitter - Sam shows an athletic/balanced setup with a solid base. He has rhythm in his hands, barrels the ball up consistently and works the middle of the field. Swinging with more bat speed and working to engage more of his lower 1/2 will help to take his offensive skills to the next level. Sam (2019 grad) still has a ton of time to develop his skills and physically mature (get stronger).

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
