06/29/2023 - Cape Cod Select Training & Competition (HS) Sam is a tall, athletic 2B who has a promising future on the diamond. At 2B, defensive abilities are solid as he displays clean / smooth actions. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork as he works to square ground balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is clean but needs to present more out front. Range will increase as he continues to improve his foot quickness. Throws are accurate with carry (83 mph velocity) to his target. At the plate, hitting / power are solid through an open setup. Hands are quick (80 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Lower half works well through the swing with an aggressive hip turn. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable. Sam has a lot of potential with time and room to progress his game.

Exclusive College Recruiting Program Sam is a 2024 prospect out of the state of Maryland. An athletic 6’3 180 lbs. frame with good actions, he has a very high upside to his game. At the plate it’s a simple set up with a quiet load and balance in the swing. He has impressive hand speed in the swing and the bat works on a line drive plane while showing a feel for consistently barreling the baseball to the middle of the field. He shows present power, but as his frame continues to add strength he projects to add more impact to his offensive profile. Defensively, he moves well in the OF with quick feet and a feel for the baseball in the air and on the ground. His arm shows present strength with online carry and will continue to get better as he adds strength to his frame. Additionally, plays 3b with good footwork and the arm strength to profile to handle 3b. A very solid college prospect with athletic ability, offensive profile and a high ceiling as he develops Deichman-Caswell will be a good get for a college program.

10/19/2019 - Mid-Atlantic Regional Offensive Skills Weekend (Ages 12-14) Sam is a coachable SS prospect who worked hard on his skills during the Accelerated Training Weekend. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a square stance and takes a square stride. He gets his hands activated in his load and generates loud contact and line drives. Working a smoother rhythm into his load can help Sam improve as a hitter. With five more years to develop, Sam has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
