06/06/2020 - 2020 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's National Texas Sam performed very well at the BF Texas Showcase highlighted by a long home run to RCF that he hit batting left-handed during the live at bats. This came after an impressive batting practice form both sides of the plate where he flashed that loft power (exit velocity of 94 mph). Sam showed a coordinated stroke with feel from the barrel both ways and advanced strike zone judgement. Defensively, Sam was good on balls in the dirt and threw to 2B as low as 1.92 with arm strength and decent footwork. Overall, Sam should hit in the middle of the order and has a chance to stay at a premium position.

01/17/2020 - 2020 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Sam is an athletic and talented 2021 switch hitting Catching prospect. Behind the dish, Sam starts in a quiet stance, he presents a low/early target, and he works under the ball. When throwing, he has a two handed exchange, he gains ground, and he makes strong/accurate throws. When blocking, he leads with his glove, he is consistently on time, and he controls the ball with his chest. From the left side of the plate, Sam starts in a crouched stance, he loads his hands back into the drive position, and he looks to drive the ball to all fields. From the right side, he attacks the inside part of the ball, he rotates his backside, and he has a gap to gap approach. Sam will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
