Official Scouting Report

12/27/2021 - Baseball Factory East Coast Winter Classic Sam is a hard working OF/RHP in the class of 2026 out of Virginia. Defensively, he displayed efficient footwork by presenting the glove and working through the baseball to set up his arm to make strong accurate throws to his target. Offensively, he used an athletic stance with a controlled stride and rhythm to work on plane with the baseball. His quick hands and barrel control allowed him to make consistent hard contact with gap to gap power. On the mound, he showed good mechanics by gathering over the rubber and separating on time to with proper stride length. He threw strikes with a two pitch mix of a fastball that topped out at 70 mph and a breaking ball with 11/5 action that ranged from 54-56 mph. Same could benefit from programs/drills such as long toss, speed training, arm path, strength training and work behind fly ball drills.

10/23/2021 - Mid-Atlantic Regional Pitching/Catching Weekend (Ages 12-14) Sam continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. On the mound, he works to a controlled balance point, has smooth separation and fires from a clean/loose arm action. He gets strong glove-side lead and stays directional toward the dish. Arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 70 mph. Breaking ball shows 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with slight sink. Off speed stuff show potential as being quality pitches as he continues to develop. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

09/05/2021 - Official Player Development Membership - Richmond, VA Sam is an athletic RHP prospect who will graduate in 2026. On the mound, Sam gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a clean arm and stays inline toward the plate, finishing square to his target. Sam operates with a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 68mph. Cutter sits from 62-63mph. Changeup sits from 61-62mph with sinking action. Driving his lower half more can help Sam increase his pitch velocity. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a square stance and takes a short stride. He shows fluid rhythm and drives through well with his lower half. He works through a direct swing with fast bat speed, driving the ball from gap to gap. Sam can generate more pop off the barrel by loading his hands more. With five more years to develop, Sam has the time and potential to further build upon his skills on the field.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
