03/04/2018 - College PREP - Chattanooga, TN Sam is a solid, athletic SS/RHP who has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed is well above average as indicated by his 60 time of 7.01. In the MIF, defensive abilities are outstanding as he displays smooth / athletic actions. Feet are aggressive as he attacks balls and plays through well with his body. Hands are soft / sure and he presents well out front. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally and covers a lot of ground. At the plate, he continues to shine through a squared / athletic setup. Hands are quick (84 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing and stays inside the ball, displaying gap-to-gap pop. On the mound, delivery is sound / repeatable allowing his arm action to work free to the plate. He shows good tempo through a strong balance point and throws from a high ¾ arm slot. Fastball showed a range of 76-78 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with late / sharp break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with slight sinking action. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Sam has the making of a special type player and will get looks from the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.
Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
