06/17/2017 - Omaha National World Series - Session 1 (Ages 14-18) Sam is a hardworking catching prospect who has an athletic build and graduates in 2018. As a right-handed hitter, Sam has a tall stance with his weight in the front of his stance. He takes a good load with an open stride and partially uses his lower half throughout his swing. Sam has a long swing path and is developing bat speed. He has the ability to hit the ball to the opposite field as well as drive the ball to the pull side. Behind the plate, Sam has an effective setup and moves with agile actions. He stays athletic and presents a low target staying square to the pitcher. Sam receives the ball softly and has a quick, clean exchange. Sam has good momentum through his release throwing from a high 3/4 arm slot. His throws are online with POP times ranging from 1.98-2.40 seconds. Overall, Sam has a good approach to the game with a well-rounded skill set giving him upside to take his game to the next level.

08/04/2016 - Baseball Factory Pro Select Training & Tournament at Historic Dodgertown Sam is a hardworking, coachable player who showed as a great teammate at the event. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. Behind the plate, pop times showed in the 2.40 range. Feet work in line to his target through a clean transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Receiving / blocking skills show as playable tools as he continues to develop and get more reps. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach.

11/06/2014 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City Sam is a young hard working catcher that works hard to improve his game. Behind the plate he has a good setup, tracks the ball well when receiving, and he works hard to keep the ball in front when blocking. He has a quick exchange on his throws and with more arm strength he could be a tough catcher to run on. At the plate he has an athletic setup, a level swing, and he sprays the ball to all fields. He sees the ball deep and made solid contact during games.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
