11/06/2011 - College PREP - Tampa, FL Sam is a young, thin, 2-way player who pitches and plays OF. On the mound, Sam has a long arm action, a controlled balance point, and he works in good rhythm. He has level shoulders, good direction toward home, and he finishes in a complete position. Sam has good explosion is the zone, and the ball jumps out of his hand. A softer landing leg and continuing to add arm strength will only help mound effectiveness improve. In the OF, Sam has playable hands and feet and he fields out in front of his body. He covers some ground well, he squares his body well to his target, and his exchange is clean and smooth. Sam has a loose arm action, and he throws with carry and consistency to his target. Defensive abilities can get better if Sam can lighten his feet, avoid drifting to the ball, and play more through. At the plate, Sam has a square set-up, good balance, and average bat speed. He has good barrel accuracy, he makes square contact, and his bat path is level. If Sam can work on his load, not spin off the ball, and use more lower 1/2, hitting numbers can rise.
