05/21/2023 - National Showcase - Monterey Park (Los Angeles), CA Sam is a talented catcher in the 2025 class. He recently impressed scouts with his actions behind the plate and at the dish. Defensively, he shows fluid actions and agile feel. Sits under the baseball and looks athletic. Pocket is soft and he maintains the strike zone well. His exchange is quick and gains a short arm slot. Registered a best 2.08 with feeds on the bag. His velo was 78 mph and scouts feel he plays above that. At the plate, he creates hard and loud contact at 84 exit velo. Hits off a firm front side and his path is direct and through the zone. Scouts like his balance and when he learns to gain separation in his load, he will become a gap-to-gap hitter. Overall, Sam is a 2025 prospect to keep an eye one.

03/19/2023 - National Showcase - Monterey Park (Los Angeles), CA Sam is a talented catcher in the 2025 class. Behind the plate, his feet work well and he stays centered to the baseball. Has pocket feel and can maintain the strike zone. Stays in-line with his feeds to 2B and arm plays at 2.08 pop/79 velo. His is consistently on the bag and has the ability o shut down the running game. At the plate, his path is direct and he swings with intent (83 exit velo) to do damage. Likes to gain separation and hits off a firm front side. Shows the ability to adjust to pitches and the ball is on the barrel. Working to keep his eyes on the barrel will generate further extension through the zone and less head movements. Overall, Sam has a bright future.

12/27/2022 - Baseball Factory Recruiting Classic Sam is a talented C in the 2025 class. He is an advanced blocker and receiver and shows upside behind the plate. He can maintain the strike zone and glove has strong feel. Can get of the baseball (2.02 pop) and his feeds are on the bag. His feet are smooth on blocks and his chest creates the proper angle to control dirtballs. At the plate, he begins in a squared stance and his hands are loose. His load is simple and he stays inside his feet well. His timing is fluid and his swing is compact. Shows a strong barrel and can drive the baseball from gap-to-gap. Showed well in games (4 hits) . Overall, Sam plays above grade and has a bright future.

07/24/2022 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Sonoma, CA Sam is a wiry catcher who has a promising future on the diamond. Behind the dish, he presents a soft/sure mitt showing great pocket awareness sticking pitches. He uses his body through the blocking process, centering balls well out front. Receiving / blocking skills show as outstanding tools that will play well at the next level. Pop times showed in the 2.09 range with accuracy and online carry (81 mph velocity) on his throws. At the plate, he continues to shine, displaying well above average hitting / power potential through a crouched setup. Hands are quick (81 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Lower half works well through the swing with an aggressive hip turn. With 3 years to further develop, Sam has a lot of potential and will get looks from the collegiate coaches as he continues to improve his baseball tools.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
