Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 3B/RHPPosition Projection

02/27/2021 - Mid Atlantic Regional Pitching/Catching & Offensive Skills Combined Weekend Sam is an athletic 3B/RHP prospect who showed well offensively during the Mid-Atlantic Skills Weekend. At the plate, this RHH shows an advanced approach through an open setup. He is smooth to load and drives through well with his lower half. He works through a direct swing with fast bat speed, leading to consistent contact and gap to gap power. Overall, Sam is a talented prospect who has the time and potential to further build upon his skills on the field.

11/08/2019 - Baseball Factory's Fall Classic Tournament at Pirate City (Ages 12-14) Sam continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At SS, defensive abilities have improved as he displays clean / smooth actions. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork as he works to square ground balls up, presenting hands as he makes the plays. Range will increase as he continues to improve foot quickness. At the plate, hitting / power potential has improved through a tall setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. At the event he was 2 for 4 with 2 BB. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 70 mph. Fastball showed a range of 67-70 mph with sinking action. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Getting on a long toss program to develop more arm strength will aid in improving abilities on the mound. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable.

12/20/2018 - Baseball Factory Winter Classic - Session 1 (Ages 12-14) Sam is a coachable 2B/RHP prospect who worked hard on his skills during his time at the Winter Classic. In the field, Sam shows efficient footwork and fields in an athletic position. He makes a two-handed exchange and gains momentum well on his throws, getting good carry through his target. Increasing his lateral range can help Sam improve defensively. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an open stance and is fluid getting into a simple load. He takes a short swing with decent bat speed, leading to consistent contact. Sam can improve as a hitter by taking a square stride. On the mound, Sam gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a clean arm and stays inline towards the plate. His fastball tops out at 63mph. Finishing with his chest over his front knee can help Sam improve as a pitcher. With six more years to develop, Sam has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.

12/08/2018 - Mid-Atlantic Regional Hitting Weekend (Ages 12-14) Sam is a tall and athletic 2025 prospect that made several adjustments throughout the Mid Atlantic Hitting Weekend. At the plate, Sam starts in a tall stance, loads his hands back into the drive position, and creates backside drive with his lower half. He needs to continue to attack the inside part of the ball and keep his head down at contact. Sam will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
