06/29/2023 - Cape Cod Select Training & Competition (HS) Sam continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. At the plate is where he has improved the most, now displaying well above average hitting abilities with outstanding power potential through a crouched, squared setup. Hands are quick (85 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap power. Lower half works well through the swing with an aggressive hip turn. At the event, he was 3 for 6 with a 3B. In the OF, defensive abilities have improved as he displays clean / smooth actions. Feet are active as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind balls and plays through with momentum to his target. He moves well with range improving as he increases foot quickness. Throws are accurate, flashing carry but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable.

12/11/2022 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Gambrills, MD Sam is an OF who will graduate in 2023. Tall frame athletic build with strength present. In the OF, takes aggressive angles to balls, with efficient footwork, and showed ability to make routine plays. Has a clean gather off of his left foot. Made consistent throws through his cutoff from a high 3/4 release point and an arm velocity up to 73mph. At the plate, he sets up with a tall and square stance. He has natural strength in swing and is balanced at contact. He has a flat barrel path as he sprayed balls to all fields with a bat exit velocity up to 78mph during his round of BP. With another season of development, we foresee Sam having a bright future on the baseball field.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
