Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 2B/RHPPosition Projection

01/15/2021 - 2021 Baseball Factory Rookie Pre-Season All-America Tournament Sam is a talented 2B/RHP that showed well at the Rookie PSAA. At 2B, Sam shows quick and active footwork as he reacts to the ball showing plus range. He fields the ball low and athletic with a confident glove and makes clean exchanges. His arm action is smooth getting rid of the ball and delivers the throw with accuracy and carry to the target. Hitting, Sam shows gap to gap power with hard contact. To create this, he starts in a square stance taking a smooth load and rotates against a firm front side as he gets his foot down. He creates fast bat speed that allows for direct, on plane contact. On the mound, Sam shows a 3-pitch mix with a FB, CB, and CH. The FB is up to 75 with movement, the CB is 11-5 and projectable, the CH is deceptive with FB arm speed. His mechanics are clean as he gathers over the rubber well and repeats with simple movements. He has good tempo as he strides down the mound finishing his pitches. Overall, Sam showed that he can compete and be a player on both sides of the ball as well as on the bump.

07/14/2020 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Sauget (St. Louis), IL Sam continues to show well on the diamond. Defensively, he has active prep and takes good angles around the GB. He presents his glove, gathers smoothly and has a clean transfer to throw. With the bat, this righty shows a crouched stance with active hands. He swings on a short/direct path, squares the ball up and hits line-drives back up the middle of the field. Sam has upside with a bright future ahead of him in the game.

12/27/2019 - Baseball Factory Winter Classic (Ages 12-14) Sam continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At 3B, defensive abilities have improved as he displays smooth / athletic actions. Feet are active and plays through balls with his body. Glove action is soft and sure and presents well out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. At the plate, he continues to shine through a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields and has strength in his swing with gap-to-gap pop. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 73 mph. Fastball showed a range of 71-73 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with slight tail. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

09/15/2019 - Interactive Video Program - Kansas City, KS Sam is a SS/RHP prospect who will graduate in 2024. In the field, Sam shows active footwork and covers ground well. He gets into an athletic position and fields the ball out in front with soft hands. He makes a clean exchange and gets rid of the ball quickly, keeping his throws accurate with carry through his target. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a tall stance and takes a short stride. He is fluid getting back into his load and drives through well with his lower half. He takes a level swing with fast bat speed and good extension, leading to loud contact and solid pop. On the mound, Sam shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 67mph. Breaking ball sits from 55-57mph with 10-4 break. Change-up sits from 60-62mph. Overall abilities can improve with work on the following.

Infield
1. Stay low to throw
Hitting
1. Let away pitch travel
Pitching
1. Balance point

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
