07/10/2015 - 2015 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's National East Samuel continues to impress with his versatility on the diamond. At the plate, this RHH has some serious power and will drive balls to the deep parts of the field. He engages his lower 1/2 well and connects with authority. In the OF, he has quick footwork (6.95 60 yard dash) tracking down fly-balls to his right and left. Exchange it quick/clean as his throws (85 mph) have carry into his target. At 3B, Hicks has active footwork and moves well laterally. Hands are soft/sure as he gathers well and gains ground toward 1B. On the mound, this righty pounds the zone, attacking hitters. He gets good glove-side lead and drives downhill toward the dish. FB still is mid-upper 80's while curveball has 11/5 shape. A talented prospect - Samuel will play at a very high level.

07/11/2014 - 2014 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's Team One South Samuel is a very good 3B/RHP with a 5'11/180 lbs frame. Offensively, he hit with strength to his pull side with quick hands and loose actions. He was quick down to the ball and was very accurate with the barrel to center at contact. He hit big league fly balls, and when level with his path, hit the ball with authority. At 3B, he made plays with a good idea and with his hands in front. He generated momentum to throw looks the part for next level play. On the hill, he threw 3 pitches from over-the-top, topping out at 87 MPH with his FB, spinning an 11/5 CB, and flashing feel for a sinking CH. Mechanically, he gathered over the rubber and had a controlled landing that allowed for repeatability with his delivery. He had an excellent tempo and worked fast. All in all - Samuel projects at either spot at the next level with consistent play ability.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
