07/25/2018 - Under Armour Southwest Championships 17U, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Samuel continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 6.99 runner. In the OF, defensive abilities are well above average as he displays smooth/fluid actions. Range is a plus as reads balls well off the bat and covers a lot of ground. He works to get behind balls and plays through with momentum to his target. Throws are accurate but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he continues to shine through a squared setup. Hands are quick (81 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel with gap-to-gap pop. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a great personality, is very coachable, and plays the game hard.

02/19/2018 - College PREP - Brentwood (Long Island), NY Samuel is a tall OF who will graduate in 2019. Defensively, Samuel has agile movements to the ball, his feet are quick, and he fields in a low position. He reads the ball off the bat well, plays through the ball, and throws with accuracy from a loose arm action to his target. If Samuel can continue to quicken his feet, and add arm strength, defensive abilities will improve. At the plate, Samuel has a tall/athletic set-up, a proper load, and good balance. He has fast bat speed, makes solid/consistent contact, and has pop in his bat. A looser grip and more lower body will only help hitting get even better.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
