08/01/2018 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Samuel is a big, strong two-way player who has a quiet toughness on the field and is always looking for ways to improve. He has really made strides as a hitter, now making solid contact more consistently and hitting the ball harder. He shows fast bat speed through the zone as he gets on plane early and matches the plane of the ball. He has strong hands that fire from a stacked position and he makes consistent, line drive contact to all fields. In the outfield, he shows soft hands to field ground balls outside of his body to use his momentum to throw. He can make the plays in the outfield with feel for the position and good reads and jumps on the ball off the bat. On the bump, he features a three-pitch mix including a fastball at 73mph, a 12-6 curve and a changeup that looks like the FB. He varies his looks and generates groundballs by working low in the zone. Working with more intent in his delivery will allow him to generate more force and show more velocity. Samuel is an interesting prospect we look forward to continue following.

02/04/2018 - College PREP - Mobile, AL Samuel is a tall, long built OF/RHP prospect who has a versatile skill set. In the field, Samuel plays with effective footwork and covers good ground. He fields the ball in an athletic position and can benefit from presenting his glove earlier. Samuel has a clean exchange leading into a long arm action throwing from a high 3/4 arm slot. He shows consistently strong, accurate throws across the diamond. As a left-handed hitter, Samuel has a square stance with a centered balance. He has a load with a short, square stride as he uses his lower half throughout his swing. He has a long swing path producing square contact. Samuel is a contact type hitter who has the ability to spray the ball to all fields. On the mound, Samuel has a balanced delivery throwing from an over the top arm slot. He keeps his eyes on his target and stays square to home plate. Samuel has the proper stride length and a controlled landing. His changeup is deceptive with sink movement and his curveball shows medium break. Overall, Samuel is a well-rounded prospect who has potential to get even better.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
