07/17/2023 - National Showcase - Highland Park (DFW), TX Samuel is a C prospect who will graduate in 2025. Medium frame stout build, with thick lower half, and strength present and room to add throughout. Ran his 60-yard dash in 6.99 seconds. Behind the plate, he showed efficient footwork as he created good blocking angles. Presents a low target and tracks ball to mitt with ability to stick the baseball. Good direction to second base, with a clean exchange, as he works into a 3/4 release point. He made on-line throws consistently to second base with an arm velocity up to 78mph and his best pop time was 2.2 seconds. Has a good spine angle with the ability to smother the baseball. At the plate he hits from an upright and closed stance. He shows good barrel control, with looseness to hands, and showed ability to use the whole field. A direct barrel path enables him to hit line drives into both gaps with a bat exit velocity up to 82mph during BP. With 2 years of continued growth and development, we foresee Samuel having opportunities to play at the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
