07/31/2019 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Samuel is a coachable LHP/OF prospect who worked hard on his skills during the National World Series at Pirate City. On the mound, Samuel gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He stays inline towards the plate and finishes with his chest over his front knee. Samuel shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 77mph with tailing action. Breaking ball sits from 61-63mph with 2-8 break. Changeup sits from 66-68mph with sinking action as he throws with deceptive arm speed. In the field, Samuel gets into an athletic position and fields with sure hands. He makes a clean exchange and keeps his throws accurate to his target. At the plate, this LHH sets up in a relaxed stance and takes a short stride. He is controlled getting into a small load and remains centered in his lower half. He takes a level swing with decent bat speed, leading to solid line drives. Overall, Samuel is a solid prospect who has the potential to further develop his skills on the field.

05/12/2019 - National Tryout Plus - Justin (DFW), TX Samuel is a OF and LHP who graduates in 2020. In the outfield Samuel sets up in a square stance and attacks fly ball in the gap. He also is aggressive to ground balls and makes online throws to the infield. Samuel will improve with speed and agility work. At the plate Samuel shows a square setup with a still and quiet head. He works to get on plane with the ball and drives it on contact. (88 MPH Exit Velocity) Samuel can see improvements at the plate with working to stay on the ball longer. On the mound Samuel shows intent and works quick using his lower half well. He shows 4 pitches, a FB at 74 to 76 and a cutter at similar velo that shows some good arm side sink. The breaking ball has 1-7 action with gradual break. The CH is 66-69 with FB arm speed. Samuel has continued to develop, and we are excited to see his improvements.

01/18/2019 - Baseball Factory National Spring Training at Pirate City Samuel shined once again at the event in Pirate City. He did show in the OF for the first time at the event. In the OF, he displays smooth actions. Feet are aggressive as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind balls more and play through with momentum to his target. Range will increase as he continues to improve foot quickness. At the plate, he shows a setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact through a line drive approach with power showing best to the pull side. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 69-74 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 1/7 shape with gradual break. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

07/17/2018 - College PREP - Highland Park (DFW), TX Samuel is a lean LHP who will graduate in 2020. Delivery is sound / repeatable allowing his arm action to work free to the plate. He shows good tempo through a strong balance point. Fastball showed a range of 74-75 mph with good arm side run. Breaking ball displays 2/8 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his cutter but resembles breaking ball. Stock on the mound will continue to increase as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Samuel has abilities on the bump with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
