04/14/2019 - College PREP - Costa Mesa (Los Angeles), CA Samuel is a tall RHP/SS prospect who continues to showcase his skills on the field. On the mound, Samuel gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a clean arm and stays inline towards the plate, finishing square to his target. Samuel shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 75mph with arm side run. Breaking ball sits from 60-62mph with 10-4 break. Changeup sits from 66-69mph with sinking action as he throws with deceptive arm speed. Extending through his release can help Samuel improve as a pitcher. In the field, Samuel shows active footwork and flashes good range to his glove side. He gets into a low position and fields the ball out in front of his body. He makes a clean exchange and gains momentum well on his throws, keeping them consistent with carry through his target. Samuel can improve defensively by staying low on backhand plays. At the plate, this RHH set up in a square stance and takes a short stride. He gets back into his load and takes a direct swing to the ball, producing solid line drives. Working a smoother rhythm into his load can help Samuel improve as a hitter. With three more years to develop, Samuel has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.

03/17/2019 - Accelerated College PREP - Monterey Park (Los Angeles), CA Samuel is an athletic RHP/SS prospect who will graduate in 2022. On the mound, Samuel repeats his delivery well and keeps his pitches around the zone. He shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 77mph. Breaking ball sits from 62-64mph with 10-4 break. Changeup sits from 66-68mph with sinking action. In the field, Samuel shows fluid footwork and takes good angles to the ball. He gets into an athletic position and fields the ball out in front of his body. He makes a quick exchange and gets rid of the ball quickly, keeping his throws accurate and on-line to his target. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a crouched stance and takes a short stride. He gets back into his load and leads well with his lower half. He tracks the ball well and drives to all fields. Overall, Samuel is a talented prospect who should find success in this, his freshman season.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
