01/13/2017 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Santi continues to show as a prospect on the diamond. At the plate he shows an athletic setup. Hands are quick, generating bat speed to and through the baseball, creating extension. He is aggressive and attacks ball, displaying leverage in his swing with baseball exploding off the bat when centered with gap to gap pop. At the event, he was 3 for 5. At 1B, he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Hands are outstanding as he consistently showed the ability to pick balls out of the dirt. Behind the plate, feet are active as he gains ground and works through a clean / transfer exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.05. Throws display accuracy and on line carry through his target. Hands are soft as he lets the ball travel and tracks well, sticking in the zone. He shows off his athletic abilities through the blocking process with tool improving as he creates better angles to deaden ball.

12/06/2015 - College PREP - Pensacola, FL Santi continues to show growth to all aspects of his game. Offensively, his consistency and feel for the barrel has jumped up, as he is striking balls gap-to-gap with plus pop. He whips the barrel through the zone with his direct bat path and core torque. Defensively, he sits well, presents a good target, and receives with soft hands. He is quick to block, and keeps his chin over the ball to deaden in front. His arm stroke is clean and he showed consistent 2.1 pops. Overall - Santi has the durable 5'10/205 lbs frame that can withstand the grind of a longer season at the next level behind the dish, and his offensive skill should find him in the heart of a lineup.

12/07/2014 - College PREP - Pensacola, FL Santi continues to show an solid all-around skill-set. Defensively, he sits in well with a wide base and presents a low target. Exchange is clean as he works in-line to 2B on throws down (pop times as low as 2.25). With the bat, this RHH shows a balanced approach with a smooth load. He steps into the box looking to take a hack and doesn't get cheated. He has plus barrel accuracy making consistent contact. This 2017 grad will make an impact in this his sophomore year.

06/14/2014 - Omaha National World Series - Session 1 Santiago brings energy to the field. Behind the dish, he is a vocal leader as he takes control on the diamond. He moves well laterally, getting around pitches in the dirt and centering them. Pop times have lowered as he now fires the ball down to 2B in as low as 2.17. Offensively, he shows good rhythm getting back into a strong loaded position. The ball jumps off of his barrel when centered as he puts it in play consistently. At the event he had 5 hits (3 doubles and 2 singles). Only a 2017 grad - Garcia's hard working mentality will take him far.

01/17/2014 - Baseball Factory Spring Training at Pirate City Santi is a lean catcher that will graduate in 2017. He is intelligent, vocal, and shows great leadership abilities behind the plate. Feet are active as he works in line through a clean transfer / exchange. Pop times show in the 2.21 range with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program and work to get rid of the baseball quicker. Receiving / blocking skills are quality tools that will play well at the next level. At the plate, Garcia shows a squared with balance setup and an aggressive approach. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed and work through swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel and makes consistent contact with ball jumping off the bat when centered, mainly to the pull side. For hitting grades to continue to improve, he needs to work to stay inside the ball to utilize all fields. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. At the event, he was 3 for 5 with a 2B. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and loves to compete. With 3 years to further develop, Santi has potential and will get looks from the collegiate coaches as he continues to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
