02/08/2009 - College PREP - Bradenton (Tampa), FL Santiago is a two way player at 1B and on the mound with a tall, heavy body. Currently, he projects best at 1B. Foot speed is well below average and needs to get on a speed agility program to improve foot quickness for the next level. He shows solid footwork in his recovery after feeds on the double play. Glove action is sure, presented out front and did show the ability to pick throws out of the dirt. Arm strength is solid average displaying carry and accuracy across the diamond. He shows a good transfer into a quick release. He needs to get on a strict long toss program to aid in further developing more arm strength and raise velocities. At the plate, hitting abilities are slightly above average with near above average power. Swing path is short, direct to the baseball, generating bat speed. He works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields and does have some strength in his swing, displaying pop. Hitting grades will improve quickly with some instruction and adjustments at the plate. On the mound, Lopez has near average abilities and needs to concentrate his work in the infield and at the plate. Santiago has abilities with a lot of room to improve.
