Official Scouting Report

08/07/2016 - National Tryout Plus - Wilmington, DE Satchel is a tall, strong pitching prospect with a projectable body. He has natural hitting instincts with good hand eye coordination. He has a quick bat through the zone with a direct path to the ball and strong wrists to make hard contact. He uses his strength to spray line drives from gap to gap. On the mound he has a loose arm with a free and clean stroke from a low 3/4 slot, creating deception. He keeps his eyes on target and has good direction to home to throw strikes with all four of his pitches with good movement. Extending through his finish will add mph and late action to his pitches. Satchel is an intriguing prospect we look forward to continue watching.

09/20/2015 - National Tryout Plus - Woodbridge (DC), VA Satchel is a RHP who continues to develop on the mound. FB now tops out at 78 mph as he works it in an out. Separation is smooth as he repeats his delivery well. Changeup is best off-speed pitch as he throws it with FB arm speed helping to create deception (61-65 mph). More glove-side lead and finishing with more extension on his follow through will help to improve effectiveness on all pitches. As a hitter - Satchel has a patient approach waiting for his pitch. Barrel is whipped through the zone on pitches he likes as he works to drive the middle of the field. Engaging his lower 1/2 more will result in increased power. This (6'0"/165) RHP has a lot of upside with still a year to fine tune his skills on the mound.

07/08/2015 - College PREP - Washington DC, MD Dyer continues to work hard on his game. On the bump, this RHP works through a repeatable delivery and pounds the zone with strikes. FB still sits at 73 mph while showing slight tail. Changeup shows to be best off-speed pitch as he throws it with FB arm speed. Splitter drops and should get a lot of GB outs. Driving his lower 1/2 off the rubber will help to get more into his pitches and increase velocity. Only a 2017 grad - Satchel still has a couple of years to develop on the mound.

07/22/2014 - National Tryout - Washington DC, MD Satchel showed improvements in some areas of his game during his last workout in DC. On the mound, his FB was clocked at 73 MPH, showing a loose arm action, good separation, and solid extension through his pitches. He keeps his eyes on target, finishes out over his front knee, and competes around the zone. In the OF, Satchel has an aggressive approach to the ball, he works behind it well, and plays through with a good arm stroke to his target. At the plate, Satchel has quick hands, good bat speed, and a middle of the field approach.

03/23/2014 - National Tryout - Ashburn (DC), VA Dryer continues to show as a RHP/OF but currently projects best in the OF for the next level where he has improved his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 7.69 runner. In the OF, he utilizes his athletic feet well in taking proper routes / angles in tracking down balls and plays through ground balls aggressively. For defensive grade to continue to improve, he needs to work to get behind fly balls more to play through with momentum to his target. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, hitting and power grades have improved as well through a open / balanced setup. Hands are loose and work to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. On the mound, he threw his top velocity to date, topping out at 73 mph. Fastball showed a range of 68-73 mph with arm side run. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for with arm side run. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength, throws more strikes, and fixes some flaws in mechanics of the delivery.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
