02/24/2019 - National Tryout Plus - West, TX Sawyer is a solid catcher with very good skills for his age. Sawyer ran his fastest 60 to date at 7.16 seconds. He excels at the plate, showing a square set-up, good balance, and a short/square stride. He has fast bat speed, he makes hard/level contact, and he uses his lower body well. Behind the plate, Sawyer has fluid/active feet, he presents his glove well, and his hands are firm. He sits in squarely, his exchange is clean, and he throws with a short/quick arm to 2nd base. Continuing to add arm strength and accuracy will help abilities progress.

At the event, he was 3 for 9 with 2 2B. Behind the plate, feet work in line to his target through a clean transfer / exchange. Pop times showed in the 2.20 range with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program and works to get rid of the ball quicker. He shows a solid setup and presents a low target. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process and centers balls well out front. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and is a solid team player.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
