06/09/2023 - 2023 Baseball Factory All-State Tournament (MS) Sawyer is a 2027 SS/RHP prospect that recently showed his skills at the All-State Tournament in Mississippi. At short, his arm strength really jumps out at you with a raw velo of 81 MPH. He does a good job of getting in a ready position and shows off agile range to all angles. He squares up the ball and gets his hands out in front when fielding. His exchange is clean and he gets rid of the ball quickly, making accurate throws across the diamond with carry to his targets. At the plate, he starts in a tall, squared stance and has comfortable hands, getting a balanced stride to the pitcher. He has a firm frontside with his lower half and he really lets it work to drive the baseball. He gets good extension on his swing and makes solid, consistent contact. He recorded a max exit velo of 64 MPH and reached base in 3 of 6 plate appearances with one double and two walks. On the mound, he features an over-the-top delivery and pounds the strike zone, firing in 22 of 32 game pitches for a strike. He gets on-time separation and has a smooth, controlled landing while working downhill, rotating over his knee upon finish. He ran his FB up to 68 MPH and showed some run with the pitch. CB has some tilt and he can consistently throw it for a strike. He projects as a power pitcher. In 2 innings of game action, he struck out 4 and allowed only one hit. Sawyer is an exciting prospect that we expect to continue to develop well as he enters his freshman year of high school next fall!
