Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHP/2BPosition Projection

07/30/2022 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Twin Falls, ID Sawyer showed solid upgrades on the mound during his last workout with The Factory. This RHP has good balance over the rubber, on-time hand separation, and a clean arm circle. His FB touches 64 MPH, he throws his off-speed for strikes, and his CB shows to be his best pitch. At 2nd base, Sawyer has active feet, good pre-pitch actions, and a low fielding position. He has firm hands, uses 2 hands, and throws with a quick release across to his target. At the plate, Sawyer stands in the box squarely with good balance. He has a level swing, he can spray to all fields, and he taps into some lower body.

12/27/2021 - Baseball Factory West Coast Winter Classic Sawyer is a hard working 3B/RHP in the class of 2026 out of Jerome, ID. He's a hard worker who hustles and is coachable. At 3B, he showed efficient footwork on his backhand and routine balls. He fielded in a low square position with his glove out front of his eyes. He made clean exchanges with consistent on line throws to his target. At the plate, he used a tall stance with a strong load to work his barrel on plane after separation. He worked the middle of the field with barrel control in his approach. On the hill, he showed good balance over the rubber with on time separation towards his target. He worked a fastball with sinking action that topped out at 63 mph and a breaking ball with 11/5 movement that he kept down in the zone. Sawyer could benefit from programs/drills such as long toss, strength training, low away tee work, arm path, and speed & agility.

08/29/2021 - Official Player Development Membership - Boise, ID Sawyer is a RHP/1B prospect who continues to showcase his skills on the diamond. On the mound, Sawyer gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a quick arm and extends through his release, staying inline toward the plate. Sawyer operates with a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 62mph with tailing action. Breaking ball sits from 47-49mph with 11-5 break. Changeup sits from 52-58mph with arm side run as he throws with deceptive arm speed. Long tossing can help Sawyer build up his arm strength. In the field, Sawyer shows active footwork and moves well laterally. He gets into a low position and fields with a firm glove. He throws from a 3/4 angle and keeps his throws accurate to his target. Sawyer can field ground balls more efficiently by working on his pocket awareness. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a square stance and takes a square stride. He gets into his load and works to barrel up the baseball, using the entire field well. Getting into his load sooner can help Sawyer create more consistent contact. With five more years to develop, Sawyer has the time and potential to further build upon his skills on the field.

09/20/2020 - Official Player Development Membership - Boise, ID Sawyer is a SS/RHP who will graduate in 2026. At SS, he displays smooth/athletic actions. Feet are active as he works around balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is clean but needs to present more out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. At the plate, he shows a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. On the mound, he showed a controlled/repeatable delivery that allows his arm action to work well to the plate. Fastball showed range of 55-56 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but throws too hard, resembling fastball. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. With 6 years to further develop, Sawyer has potential with time and room to progress his game.

09/15/2019 - Interactive Video Program - Boise, ID Sawyer is a young, scrappy, 2-way player who plays SS and RHP. Defensively, Sawyer has playable hands and feet, he moves well to the ball, and makes plays consistently. He fields out in front of his body, his exchange is clean, and he throws with a loose arm across the diamond. On the mound, Sawyer has a compact delivery, he keeps his eyes on target, and he rotates completely toward his target. Offensively, Sawyer has a crouched stance, a square stride, and he can spray the ball to all fields. He hits line drives and uses some lower body. Overall skills can further improve with work on the following.

2. Hands
3. Release

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
