Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 3B/RHPPosition Projection

07/30/2018 - National Tryout Plus - York, PA Sean is a tall, strong two-way prospect who currently is more advanced as a position player. He shows impressive feel to hit with the ability to find barrels and flash gap power. He has a strong lower half and uses it to generate fast bat speed through the zone. He works on a level, direct path to the ball and stays balanced throughout his swing to make hard contact from gap to gap. At third, he shows active footwork with range to both sides to work around the ball and make all the plays. He gets in an athletic position to field with presented hand to and picks the right hops to make tough plays. On the mound, he has a smooth, clean delivery with a loose arm stroke to generate whip and get movement on his pitches. His fastball sits in the upper 70's with tailing action, his curveball has good spin and 10-4 break and his changeup has deceptive action. Staying directional to the plate will allow his momentum to work towards the hitter and improve velocity moving forward. Sean is a talented player with lots of potential on the field.

07/18/2018 - Under Armour Southwest Championships 16U, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Sean continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has the makings of a special type player at the next level. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At 3B, he displays smooth / fluid actions. Feet are aggressive as he attacks balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is soft and presents well out front. Range will increase as he continues to improve foot quickness. Hands / feet work well together as he gets rid of the baseball quickly with accuracy and zip (84 mph velocity) on his throws. At the plate, he continues shine through a squared setup. Hands are quick (84 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel with power showing best to the pull side. Mental makeup may be his best tool as he plays the game the right way. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 79 mph. Fastball showed a range of 78-79 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with late / sharp break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup and shows a plus feel for the pitch. Off speed stuff show as quality pitches that will get outs. Control is outstanding as he throws strikes with all his pitches and attacks hitters. With 2 years to further develop, Sean has the tools to play at the next level and will make some school a special type player.

04/29/2018 - College PREP - Plymouth Meeting (Philadelphia), PA Sean is a strong, athletic RHP/3B who has a promising future on the diamond. At the plate is where he shows best, displaying well above average hitting abilities with outstanding power potential through an athletic setup. Hands are strong and work through an aggressive swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel with power showing best to the pull side. At 3B, he continues to shine as he displays smooth / clean actions. Feet are active and he displays proper footwork as he plays through balls with his body. Glove action is soft / sure and presents well out front. Throws are accurate with zip across the diamond. On the mound, delivery is sound / repeatable allowing his arm action to work free to the plate. Fastball showed a range of 76-78 mph with good life. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with arm side run. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. With 2 years to further develop, Sean has the makings of a special type player and will get looks from the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities, possibly as a two-way guy.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
