Official Scouting Report

  • 3B/RHPPosition Projection

03/03/2019 - National Tryout Plus - Newbury Park, CA Sean continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. He did show at 3B for the first time. At the plate, he has improved his hitting / power potential through an open setup. Hands are quick (82 mph exit velocity) and work to and through a level swing path, creating extension. Barrel accuracy is a plus and he has strength in his swing with power showing best to the pull side. At 3B, he displays smooth / athletic actions. Feet are aggressive as he works around balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is soft / sure and he presents well out front. He shows off his athletic abilities on the backhand play. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 76 mph. Fastball showed a range of 74-76 mph with sinking action. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with late / sharp break and shows as an outstanding pitch. Changeup shows sinking action but slows arm speed, tipping off pitch to hitters. Control is outstanding as the throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

06/16/2018 - Omaha National World Series - Session 1 (Ages 14-18) Sean continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At SS, feet are active as he moves well laterally, displaying range. Hands / feet work well together as he presents glove well out front. At the plate, power potential has improved through a balanced setup. Hands are quick (81 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a solid feel for the barrel with the baseball jumping off the bat when centered. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 72 mph. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sinking action. Getting on a long toss program will help to increase arm strength which will aid in his development on the mound. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a great personality, is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

12/17/2017 - College PREP - Thousand Oaks, CA Sean is an athletic RHP who has a promising future on the diamond. Delivery is sound / repeatable allowing his arm action to work free to the plate. He shows good tempo / rhythm through a strong balance point. Fastball showed a range of 60-65 mph with tailing action. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with sharp / late break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for pitch with arm side run. Off speed pitches show potential as being quality pitches at the next level. Control is outstanding as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. With 3 years to further develop, Sean has an upside on the mound with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
