07/12/2009 - Team One South 2009 Sean went 1-4 with a BB as he hit the ball every time. Behind the plate, showed plus arm strength with carry while getting in good throwing position. Was in rhythm with a solid exchange. At the plate, had good balance with above average bat speed. Extended thru ball effectively with good pull-side pop. Had little uppercut in swing which created top spin. Used lower half efficiently.

08/30/2008 - ACR-E - Maryland - 9 Sean improved his 60-time, velocity, and pop-times while at this event. Behind the plate, athletic actions allowed him to get in good throwing position. Had a quick exchange and some carry on throws. When he had wide stance, throws were accurate with best pop times. While receiving, had good low target with firm hands. Had elbow flexion which allowed him to get around ball. While blocking, took good angles to center and deaden ball in front. Would like to see him go straight down to cover hole quicker and not use hands to get up. At the plate, had proper set-up with up-the-middle approach. Generated some bat speed with barrel accuracy. Would like to see him keep approach downhill. He is a young player with upside and athleticism.

07/19/2008 - College PREP - Plymouth Meeting (Philadelphia), PA Sean Hagen is a tall athletically built catcher. Behind the plate, Sean has a strong arm and quick feet as his sub 2-second pop time indicates. He can work on his stance as he is too narrow, but he has a quiet body when receiving. His blocking ability is above average and he pops up nicely to recover. He can catch at the next level. At the plate, Sean shows bat speed and the ability to hit the ball where it is pitched. He has some pull side power and can increase that power by better utilizing the lower half. Overall, Sean has the talent and ability to take his game to the next level.

01/11/2008 - Under Armour Pre-Season All-America - 2008 Sean was an athletic, strong C with more room to grow. Showed firm hands to receive which allowed for quick exchange and accurate throws. Long toss will help ball carry to 2B instead of die at base. Would like to see him gain ground on throw and finish through throw. Occasionally uphill on throw. Took good angles to center ball when blocking. Want to see him eliminate kicking back which at times makes him late getting glove down. At the plate, showed good setup that allowed for good use of lower half. Had decent extension through ball but could improve and relaxes hands so he doesn't swing with shoulders.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
