  • 1B/RHPPosition Projection

10/23/2019 - Under Armour SoCal Classic, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Sean is a coachable 1B/RHP prospect who worked hard on his skills during the SoCal Classic. In the field, Sean takes a good first step and shows smooth footwork. He gets into position on time and fields the ball out in front of his body. He makes a clean exchange and gains momentum well on his throws, creating good back spin through his target. Increasing his lateral range can help Sean improve defensively. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a square stance and takes a controlled stride. He gets his hands activated on time and is explosive driving his lower half through. He gets good extension through the ball with fast bat speed, leading to solid line drives and gap to gap pop. Sean can improve as a hitter by taking a shorter swing. On the mound, Sean gathers over the rubber and is fluid separating his hands. He works with a clean arm and stays inline towards the plate, driving his lower half well. Sean shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 76mph with arm side run. Breaking ball sits from 64-65mph with 10-4 break Splitter sits at 64mph with good downward action. Long tossing to build up his arm strength can help Sean improve as a pitcher. Overall, Sean is a solid prospect who has the potential to further develop his skills on the field.

07/16/2019 - National Tryout Plus - Sauget (St. Louis), IL Sean continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and he has a promising future on the diamond. At the plate, hitting / power potential has improved through an open / athletic setup. Hands are quick (86 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel with baseball and has pop in his swing with ball jumping off the bat when centered with power showing best to the pull side. At 1B, defensive abilities have improved as he shows smooth / clean actions and good pre pitch movements. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. He works to square ground balls up, displaying clean hands as he makes the routine plays. Defensive grade will continue to improve as he increases foot quickness and presents hands more out front. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 75 mph. Breaking ball sits from 62-64 mph with 11/5 shape with gradual break. He can improve as a pitcher by long tossing to build up his arm strength.

01/18/2019 - Baseball Factory National Spring Training at Pirate City Sean is a coachable 1B/RHP prospect who worked hard on his skills during his time at the Spring Training at Pirate City. In the field, Sean makes the routine plays and gains momentum well on his throws, keeping them accurate to his target. Getting into a more athletic fielding position can help Sean improve defensively. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a closed stance and takes a centered stride. He drives through well with his lower half and gets good extension through the ball, leading to consistent contact. Sean can improve as a hitter by working a smoother load into his swing. On the mound, Sean starts with a simple rock step and gathers over the rubber. He separates his hands on time and stays inline towards the plate. Sean's fastball tops out at 72mph. Driving his lower half more can help Sean improve as a pitcher. With three more years to develop, Sean has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
