Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • OF/LHPPosition Projection

01/14/2011 - Under Armour Pre-Season All-America - 2011 Sean continues o show improvements in his baseball abilities and showed in the OF for the first time where he now also projects as an OF at the next level. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a solid 7.34 runner. He utilizes his quick, athletic feet well in taking proper routes / angles in tracking down balls and works to get behind, playing through with momentum to his target. Lateral movements are a plus and he goes back well, displaying range. Footwork to throw is a plus as he gets rid of the ball quickly with life, carry, and accuracy on his throws. Offensively, Patton is a switch hitter that shows best from the right side. He shows a solid setup with balance that allows his hands to work inside the ball to utilize all fields. Swing path is level as he will benefit by concentrating his work into the right side. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 76-82 mph with arm side run. Sean showed and easy arm action, controlled delivery, and good finish. Had 6 strikeouts vs. strong competition with great mound presence.

12/27/2010 - Christmas Camp and Tournament 2010 - Session 2 Patton showed solid improvements on the mound during his time at the Christmas Camp. He battles on the mound, works in good tempo, and he has good command of his FB and CH. Sean increased his radar velocity from 79 to 83 MPH, and his arm action is sound and free. He works to his balance point well, his separation is on-time, and he lands in a square / balanced position. Sean showed natural abilities in the OF by tracking the ball well and making plays fluidly. He has a live / loose arm and throws with carry to his target. Offensively, Sean tracks the ball well, he has some separation, and above average strength. He is a gap type hitter who battled the Pitcher in every at bat.

09/19/2010 - College PREP - Oklahoma City, OK Sean is a strong, athletic, 2-way player that Pitches and plays OF. On the mound, Sean has a balanced delivery and smooth actions. He has a good / loose arm action and he fills the zone with strikes. Sean can improve his mound effectiveness if he can use his legs more and add arm strength. In the OF, Sean has good hands and feet and he makes plays on balls hit his way. He has loose / athletic actions, he squares his body to his target, and delivers it accurately with carry. OF skills can get better if Sean can improve his routes to the ball and quicken his exchange. Offensively, Sean hits equally as good from both sides of the plate. He has a quiet head, level swing, and direct hands to the ball. He puts the ball in play and can spray to all fields. Offensive grades can get better with a shorter stroke and better use of his lower 1/2.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
