Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 3B/1BPosition Projection

01/21/2019 - College PREP - Mesa (Phoenix), AZ Sebastian showed as a corner IF and continues to shine on the diamond. In the field, he shows efficient footwork and covers ground well. He fields the ball out in front with soft hands and makes a quick exchange to throw. He gains momentum well on his throws and keeps them accurate to his target. Sebastian can improve defensively by fielding the ball on the balls of his feet. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an athletic stance and takes a short stride. He makes consistent contact through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently.

01/13/2017 - Baseball Factory Spring Training in Arizona (Ages 14-18) Sebastian is a 2019 1B/RHP prospect with a large frame that he uses to his advantage no matter where he is playing. He displays impressive control on the mound, showing ability to locate his fastball to both sides of the plate. On the bump, he's a strike thrower, always working ahead and dictating at-bats to hitters while keeping them guessing. He works in line to the plate which helps his control and he is very poised on the mound, never seeming to lose control of the game. At first, he presents a good, large target to infielders throwing to first and can make the plays expected of a first baseman. He has a good feel for the position, holding runners on well and showing good instincts for his footwork around the bag. Agility and balance drills will improve his range and ability to field cleanly at first. At the dish, he shows a tall setup with a patient approach, using his knowledge of the strike zone to work at-bats. He gets his front foot down on time to launch and flashes pop to the pull side when pitchers work in on him. Sebastian is an intriguing prospect who we definitely want to monitor as he continues to mature.

01/15/2016 - Baseball Factory Spring Training in Arizona (Ages 14-18) Sebastian showed as both a 1B/RHP in his most recent outing with Baseball Factory. The mature built freshman made the routine plays at 1B with present strength and with work on speeding up his feet and being more flexible will elevate his defensive game (getting to the ball quicker and getting lower to field). Offensively, he was selective at the dish, drawing 3 walks in 6 plate appearances. He showed some feel for the barrel and with continued reps focused on staying directional through contact will increase hard contact. On the hill, he threw a FB with cut and spun an 11/5 CB from 53-55. He had good direction and was consistent with his pace of delivery. All in all - Sebastian is a projectable guy that has time to get more reps and add rhythm/fluidity to his game.

10/18/2015 - College PREP - El Paso, TX Sebastian is a RHH 1B who has a strong build (6'0"/175). With the bat, this righty shows a square setup with patience, letting the ball travel into the zone. He swings on a level path and works to drive the middle of the field. Loosening his grip will help to increase bat speed - and using more of his lower 1/2 will both result in increased power. At 1B - Garcia hustles to come and gets the GB. He makes the backhand play smoothly and gathers well. Continuing to develop his footwork/agility will help to increase lateral range. Only a 2019 grad - Garcia has upside with still a ton of time to develop.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
