Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHP/3BPosition Projection

09/22/2019 - College PREP - Lynnwood (Seattle), WA Seth is an athletic RHP/3B prospect who continues to showcase his skills on the field. On the mound, Seth gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a clean arm and stays inline towards the plate, finishing with a controlled landing. Seth shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 79mph with tailing action. Breaking ball sits from 63-68mph with sharp 11-5 break. Changeup sits from 68-71mph with arm side run as he throws with deceptive arm speed. In the field, Seth shows active footwork and attacks the ball aggressively. He gets into a square position and fields with a firm glove. He makes a clean exchange and gains momentum well on his throws, keeping them consistently on-line to his target. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an open stance and takes a square stride. He is smooth getting into his load and drives through well with his lower half. He takes a direct swing with fast bat speed, leading to loud contact to all fields. Overall, Seth is a talented prospect who should find success going into his sophomore season.

07/09/2019 - California Select Training & Competition - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Seth is a coachable RHP/3B prospect who worked hard on his skills during the California Select Training & Competition. On the mound, Seth gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a loose arm and stays inline towards the plate, finishing with his chest over his front knee. Seth shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 74mph. Breaking ball sits from 59-64mph with 11-5 break. Changeup sits from 61-66mph as he throws with deceptive arm speed. Long tossing to build up his arm strength can help Seth improve as a pitcher. In the field, Seth shows active footwork and is agile moving to the ball. He gets into a low position and fields the ball out in front of his body. He makes a two-handed exchange and gets good carry on his throws. Seth can improve defensively by increasing his glove side range. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an athletic stance and takes a square stride. He is controlled getting into his load and takes a level swing, leading to solid line drives. Activating his hands more in his load can help Seth improve as a hitter. With three more years to develop, Seth has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.

11/08/2018 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition in Arizona (Ages 14-18) Seth is a solid, athletic 3B/RHP who has a promising future on the diamond. At the plate, he shows a tall, open setup. Hands are quick and work through a compact swing path. He has strength in his swing and stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. At 3B, he displays smooth / fluid actions. Feet are active / aggressive as he takes good first steps in attacking the baseball. Glove action is soft / clean but needs to present more out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 70-74 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. Control is solid as he attacks hitters and throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and plays the game hard. With 4 years to further develop, Seth has a lot of potential with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
