Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 3B/RHPPosition Projection

07/28/2017 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 (Ages 14-18) Seth improved his radar velocity on the mound and his hitting numbers at the plate during his time in Pirate City. Hitting grades are not 52 and 50 respecively. Seth showed fast bat speed through and open stance and fluid timing at the plate. He stands in balanced, drive the ball gap to gap, and swings on-plane well. At 3B Seth showed quick/presentable hands for a big guy. He moves well side to side, funnels well, and gains momentum toward his target and delivers the ball with plus carry. On the mound, Seth has simple/repeatable mechanics, he works on a downhill plane, and he keeps his eyes on target. He gets good extension on his pitches and his FB now tops out at 83 MPH.

05/21/2017 - College PREP - Glen Allen (Richmond), VA Seth is a tall, solid RHP/3B who has a promising future on the diamond. At the plate is where he shows best, displaying outstanding hitting / power potential through an athletic setup. Hands are quick (87 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He has excellent strength in his swing with gap to gap pop. At 3B, he displays smooth / athletic actions. Feet are aggressive as he attacks balls but needs to play through more with his body. Hands are soft / sure but will benefit by presenting more out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. On the mound, delivery is sound / repeatable allowing his arm action to work free to the plate. He shows good tempo through a strong balance point and throws from a high 3/4 arm slot. Fastball showed a range of 75-78 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with arm side run. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. With 2 years to further develop, Seth has the makings of special type player and will get looks from the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
