Official Scouting Report

  • 1B/RHPPosition Projection

12/27/2017 - Under Armour Baseball Factory Recruiting Classic (Ages 14-18) Seth has turned himself into a prospect for the next level as he's grown and matured. He is a big, physical presence on the field and translates this into huge raw power and arm strength. He's gotten more fluid at the plate with good rhythm and centered balance throughout his swing. His hands are quick on a direct path to the ball as he crushes the ball to all fields (93mph exit velo). At first, he shows fluid feet and hands, working well around the bag to field and pick balls in the dirt. He throws well and starts double plays with a strong, accurate arm. On the mound, this RHP shows a bulldog mentality, attacking hitters with strikes and looks to induce weak contact. He gets late movement on his offerings with tail on the fastball, 11-5 break on the curve and fade on his changeup. Seth is a coachable player who looks like he can make significant contributions at the next level.

10/29/2017 - National Tryout Plus - Corpus Christi, TX Seth is a big, strong (6'0", 210lbs) 1B/RHP prospect who is currently more advanced as a first baseman. He takes a massive cut at the dish and can launch balls to all parts of the park with huge raw power. He is aggressive at the dish, looking for a pitch to drive and attacking it with fast bat speed. He is balanced in his swing, getting on plane early and the ball jumps off his bat as he consistently finds the barrel to hit lasers all over the field. At first, he shows good bag awareness, creating shorter throws for infielders and picking dirt balls well. He gets low to field with presented hands to keep everything in front and makes accurate throws around the infield. On the bump he shows a fastball, split mix from a quiet, repeatable delivery that allows him to throw strikes consistently. He works in the mid to upper 70's with the fastball and the split shows good tumble with plus potential. A long toss program will help free up his arm swing and add velocity and movement to his pitches. Seth is a very exciting position player prospect who has the offensive skills to hit at the next level.

10/23/2016 - College PREP - Conroe (Houston), TX Seth is a tall, athletic 1B/RHP who has a promising future on the diamond. At the plate is where he shows best through an athletic setup. Hands are quick (85 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive approach. He has strength in his swing with baseball jumping off the bat when centered. He stays inside the ball utilizing all fields, flashing gap to gap pop. At 1B, he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. He tracks balls well and displays a clean glove but will benefit by presenting hands more out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. On the bump, he shows a sound / repeatable delivery, working in line and on time allowing his arm to work loose / free to the plate. Fastball showed a range of 74-77 mph. He maintains arm speed on his changeup showing a feel for pitch with tailing action. He throws a split finger that flashes tumbling action. Getting on a long toss program to build more arm strength will aid in further development on the mound. With 3 years to further develop, Seth has potential with time and room to continue to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
