10/11/2017 - Arizona Senior Fall Classic
Shamus continues to show improvements at both positions, and projects as a solid 2-way player at the next level. Infield abilities at 3B are very solid, hands are soft, he fields athletically, and he moves well laterally. Shamus gains ground, has a clean exchange, and an accurate arm with carry and accuracy across the diamond. On the mound, Shamus throws strikes and his FB is in the mid 80's with solid A/S run. He repeats his delivery, keeps his eyes on target, and he knows how to get hitters out. At the plate, Shamus has a short/direct barrel, good balance, and pop in his bat. He swings on-plane, has explosive bat speed, and can work the ball gap to gap. Shamus will be an exciting player to follow at the next level.
06/16/2017 - USA Baseball 17U Championships
Shamus is a talented player who worked hard on his skills during his time at the USA Baseball 17U Championships. He is a very coachable player and was elected the team MVP during the event. At 3B, Shamus shows efficient footwork and centers the ball in the middle of his body. He gets into an athletic position and fields the ball out in front of his body. He shows a clean exchange and keeps his throws accurate and on-line to his target. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an open stance and takes a square, on-time stride to the ball. He is smooth getting into his load and comes through the zone well with his lower half. He takes a level swing with fast bat speed and great extension which leads to hard contact and gap to gap power. Shamus performed very well at the plate during the event, going 6-13 with one 2B and one 3B. On the mound, Shamus has a repeatable delivery and commands all of his pitches well. He shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 81mph. Breaking ball sits from 67-69mph with 11-5 break. Changeup ranges from 71-73mph with good arm side tail as he throws with fastball arm speed. Overall, Shamus is a talented prospect who has the skills to perform well both in the field and on the mound.
01/13/2017 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament
Shamus is a gamer who continues to impress on the diamond. As a hitter, this strong righty has fluid rhythm and waits for a pitch he can drive. Hands are quick as he engages his lower 1/2 well, and connects with pop. At 3B, he has active prep and works around the GB right to left. He has athletic actions, soft hands and fires strong throws with zip across the diamond. Shamus is a solid prospect who has a ton of upside and will play at a high level.
07/20/2016 - Under Armour Southwest Championships 16U, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One
Shamus continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities with a tremendous future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. Defensive abilities are now outstanding, displaying smooth, fluid actions. He moves well laterally, displaying range and works through a low to high approach, playing through the ball well. Hands are soft and clean as he makes the plays. At the plate, Shamus' hitting abilities are now well above average with tremendous power potential. His hands are quick (90 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path as he makes consistent contact, staying inside the ball well, utilizing all fields. He shows a feel for the barrel with gap to gap pop. On the mound, Shamus' arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date, topping out at 84 mph. Fastball showed a range of 81-84 mph with sinking action. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual breaking action. He shows a feel for his changeup with arm side run. Off speed stuff show as quality pitches. Command is outstanding as he throws strikes with all his pitches. He displays an upside and pitch ability on the mound. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and plays the game hard. With 2 years to further develop, Shamus has the makings of a special type player and will get looks from the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities, possibly as a two-way guy.
12/13/2015 - College PREP - Madison (NYC), NJ
This talented 2-way player continues to shine. In the MIF, he has quick footwork moving well on the balls of his feet. He works fluidly from right left, gathers well and makes accurate throws across the diamond with carry. As a hitter - Shamus works back into a strong loaded position and waits for his pitch. Barrel delivery is quick as he connects with strength and drives the ball with pop. He engages his lower 1/2 and generates torque whipping the barrel through the zone. On the mound, Shamus fills up the zone with strikes. His low 3/4 arm slot provides deception for the hitter creating an uncomfortable at-bat. FB tops out at 83 mph while showing late run which will be sure to get in on the hands on the RHH. He throws a 'heavy' ball and works to keep it down in the zone. Shamus has upside and will make an impact in a variety of ways when he steps onto the diamond.
01/16/2015 - Baseball Factory All-America Pre-Season Rookie Tournament
This 6'1"/190 2-way player continues to show well on the diamond. At SS, Shamus actively works around the GB. He fields the ball cleanly and funnels to a smooth transfer/exchange. With the bat, this RHH maintains fluid rhythm to work into a strong loaded position. Barrel accuracy is a plus as he connects and squares the ball up consistently showing pop. More extension through his finish will help to tap into even more power potential. On the mound, FB continues to pound the zone in the upper 70's as he can hit spots. He has faith in his curveball and can throw it for strikes in any count. Shamus has a ton of upside with a bright future in the game.
10/05/2014 - National Tryout - Trenton, NJ
Shamus showed well at his latest Baseball Factory event. His velocity jumped up 10 mph since his last event a little less then a year ago. He is now under an 8 sec. 60yd time, which shows his improved athletic ability. At SS, he has good prep steps with controlled actions. Working on his glove hand (feeds to 2B) and playing through the ball will improve his abilities as an infielder. On the mound, Shamus flashed a FB in the high 70s with a CB resembling an 11/5 shape. He does a great job of engaging his lower 1/2 and using his glove side to lead him to his target. Strengthening his arm and developing another secondary pitch will allow his abilities to improve on the bump. At the plate, he uses some of his lower half and bat speed to whip the bat through the zone giving his hands a direct path to the ball. His stride and loading of his hands is on time, which gives him some barrel consistency. By leveling off his swing and working through the middle, Shamus will see his hitting abilities improve. Shamus has continued to show improvement at his events and we are looking to see what the future holds for this 2018 grad.
12/27/2013 - Baseball Factory Winter Classic
Shamus is a very respectful young man who is coachable and makes good adjustments. As an infielder he consistently makes plays but he can improve by developing a better fielding position, increase lateral quickness/agility, and strengthening his arm. As a pitcher Shamus has a projectable body, solid fastball and has good feel for the curveball. He can improve by using the lower half more, keep glove side closed, and stay in-line to target. At the plate Shamus is direct to the ball; showed good bat speed, swing path, and barrel accuracy. Areas for improvement include using the lower half more and developing an overall smoother approach.
07/15/2013 - Interactive Video Program - Trenton, NJ
Shamus is a 5'8"/160 lbs 2018 that shows an exceptional knuckle-ball. On the mound, he throws three pitches for strikes, with his fastball topping out at 70 MPH. His knuckle-ball is thrown being 52-55 MPH and has good dance with little to no spin. In the infield, he works around the ball and has sure hands and a clean exchange. Offensively, he is aggressive getting the barrel through the zone and has good balance. In all, Shamus is a sound young player that will has a few more years to develop strength and build on his mechanics.
