12/17/2011 - Pirate City Christmas Camp and Tournament - Session 1 Brown continues to show as a two-way player but projects best on the mound for the next level. Arm strength has improved as he topped out at 81 mph. Fastball showed a range of 78-81 mph with lots of arm side run. Breaking ball flashes potential as being a quality pitch when he stays on top. He slows his body and arm speed on his changeup, tipping off pitch to hitters as he needs to speed up his actions on pitch. At 3B, he displays clean hands and works to center groundballs. He needs to play through more, present hands out front, and improve foot speed to continue to improve defensive grades. At the plate, Brown shows a balanced approach with strength in his swing. The baseball jumps off his bat when centered. He needs to work to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields to improve hitting grades. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. Shane has a tremendous attitude and is very coachable as he works to be the best he can be.
