06/02/2018 - 2018 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's National West Shane showed as a catcher for the first time at the event and he has the makings of a special type player at the next level. Pop times showed in the 1.92 range with on line car-ry and accuracy to his throws. Receiving / blocking skills are outstanding as he shows off his athletic abilities. At the plate, he continues to shine. He has fluid rhythm while getting good hand separation. Barrel is whipped through the zone as he connects through a line drive path. A talented prospect - he will make things happen both behind the dish as well as with the bat.

01/12/2018 - 2018 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Shane is a corner infielder who can swing it. At the plate - he has strong/centered balance with fluid rhythm to load. He takes an absolute hack - crushing the ball to the deep parts of the park (exit velocity = 89 mph). At 3B, he has plus lateral range, working from the ground-up with smooth actions. Transfer is quick as he fires strong throws (89 mph velocity) zipping across the diamond. A projectable 3B - Shane will play at a very high level and make an immediate impact.

06/03/2017 - 2017 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's National West Shane is a talented 3B prospect who has an athletic, strong build and above average skill on both sides of the ball. As a right-handed hitter, Shane has an open, athletic stance with a centered balance and aggressive approach. He has fluid, smooth rhythm in his load with a short stride. Shane shows explosive bat speed with a short swing path and good whip. Shane gets extension at contact consistently landing the barrel to the baseball showing hard contact. He has a line drive approach and gets good backspin on the baseball. At the hot corner, Shane plays with effective footwork and an aggressive approach giving him a good jump on the ball. He presents his glove and fields the ball in a low, athletic position with soft hands. He has a clean exchange leading into a short arm action throwing from a 3/4 arm slot. Shane plays with momentum through the baseball and his throws are accurate with good carry across the diamond. Overall, Shane has a good approach the game with a talented skill set giving him great upside on the diamond.

01/13/2017 - Baseball Factory All-America Pre-Season Rookie Tournament Shane's diverse skills et and prowess on the field makes him a very exciting prospect for the next level. He shows middle of the order potential with quick hands and a strong lower half to generate bat speed and power. He explodes through the zone on a level path to the ball and makes consistent, hard to contact to spray balls to all fields with gap power that will keep growing as he does. His quick release and strong arm make him a natural at short with the ability to make plays in the hole and up the middle. His quick feet and soft hands, along with good angles to the ball allow him to cover plenty of ground and make all of the plays, with quick hands to turn the DP. He is a bulldog on the mound, attacking hitters early and often with the ability to throw any pitch for a strike in any count. His changes speeds well from his upper 70's fastball with run to his 11-5 curveball to the deceptive changeup. Shane is a top of the line talent who will be an impact player wherever he ends up.

10/05/2016 - Arizona Freshman/Sophomore Fall Classic Shane continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities with a promising future on the diamond. At the plate, he has improved his power potential, now showing as outstanding. Hands are quick (86 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing and works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap to gap pop. The baseball comes off his bat differently when centered. At the event, he was 3 for 6 with a 2B and 3B. In the MIF, he displays smooth / fluid actions. Feet are active as he works around and plays through balls with his body. He moves well laterally and presents soft /sure hands well out front. Hands / feet work well together and he gets rid of the baseball quickly with carry, and accuracy on his throws across the diamond. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 70-75 mph with a 11/5 shape breaking ball. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches, attacking hitters. Building more arm strength through a long toss program will aid in further development on the mound. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable, makes adjustments, and works hard to be the best player he can be.

01/15/2016 - Baseball Factory All-America Pre-Season Rookie Tournament Shane continues to shine as he did so during his time at the Pre-Season Rookie All-America Tournament. Defensively, he shows active footwork moving lightly on the balls of his feet. He presents his glove, fields the ball out in front and gathers smoothly. He works through the ball well and gains ground toward his target at 1B. Offensively, this RHH maintains a balanced setup with quiet/simple actions. He has rhythm to load and waits for his pitch, not swinging at much that he cannot handle (3 walks at the event). Swing is short/compact as he barrels the ball up and drives it on a line. On the mound, Shane has a 3 pitch arsenal and keeps hitters guessing. He works quickly and doesn't give hitters time to settle in. FB now sits at 76 mph as he works it to both sides of the dish. Slider has good action and compliments his FB well - getting a lot of swing a misses. Shane is a talented 2-way prospect who has a very bright future ahead of him in the game.

07/10/2015 - California Select Training & Competition - Session 1 Shane showed as a SS/RHP and improved his baseball abilities a ton, displaying a promising future on the diamond at both positions. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date but will benefit by continuing to increase foot quickness. At SS, defensive grade are now solid, displaying smooth / fluid actions. He plays aggressively with his feet, working around ground balls and plays through balls while presenting hands well out front. Feet / hands work well together through the fielding process and shows off his athletic abilities on is his feeds / turns of the double play. Arm strength is now well above average as he gets rid of the baseball quickly with life, carry, and accuracy on his throws. At the plate, he has improved his hitting / power grades through an athletic setup. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed and work through a level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel with ball jumping off bat as he works to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. Power numbers will improve as he utilizes his lower half more. At the event, he has an outstanding tournament, going 6 for with 2 3B, 2B and a HR. On the mound, he shows an upside. Fastball showed a range of 70-72 mph with cutting action. Breaking ball shows potential as being a quality pitch, displaying 11/5 shape with late break. Control is a plus as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable. With 5 years to further develop, Erickson has the makings of a special type player as he continues to develop.

07/25/2014 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City Shane is an athletic primary 3B that also showcased on the mound during camp. At 3B Shane continues to show a good fielding position, he has sure hands, and he makes accurate throws across the diamond. At the plate he starts with an open stance, has strong balance, and he starts his swing with a smooth load. He has great rhythm and timing at the plate and consistently hit line drives during BP and games. On the mound Shane works quick and pounds the zone with his fastball. He repeats his delivery and gets good extension. He has a good curve, but would like to see him use it more. It is a good pitch that will continue to make him more advanced on the mound and keep hitters off balance.

01/20/2014 - Interactive Video Program - Tucson, AZ Shane is a young, athletic, 2-way player with good skills. At 3B, Shane has has good footwork, he attacks the ball aggressively, and he has solid body control. He is light on his feet, follows his throws, and has accuracy across the diamond. Behind the plate, Shane has a good set-up, he tracks the ball well, and his wrist is firm. He deadens the ball well when blocking, he follows his throws, and has accuracy to 2nd base. At the plate, Shane has quick hands, good balance, and an activated load. He has a good launch, a direct barrel to the ball, and he squares it up well on the barrel. Shane can improve his overall skills with work on the following.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
