12/11/2020 - Baseball Factory Academic All-American Tournament Shane is an athletic 1B/LHP prospect in the class of 2023. At 1B, he plays in an athletic position and shows efficient footwork while moving around the bag. He approaches the ball in a low/square fielding position with a quick and clean exchange. He is quick in his release, throwing with a loose arm action from a 3/4 arm slot. At the plate, this lefty starts in an athletic setup, using a simple load striding square to the pitcher. He has smooth rhythm and a repeatable swing, allowing him to spray the ball to all parts of the field. On the mound, he has a good poise and goes after hitters. Shane has a clean arm action and great extension on his pitches. He battles with the ability to command his pitches (FB/CB). Overall, Shane is a solid prospect who has upside on the diamond.

05/20/2020 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Billings, MT Shane only showed at the plate at the event due to an arm injury. At the plate, he shows a squared / balanced setup. Hands are loose and aggressive work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact and utilizes all fields. Hitting grade will continue to improve as he works to get his stride foot down sooner to work on time. He is young with time and room to progress his game.

07/21/2019 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 12-14) Shane continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 70 mph. Fastball shows a range of 68-70 mph with sinking action. Breaking ball displays 1/7 shape with gradual break. Control is solid as he attacks hitters and throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock to the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength and works to throw more strikes. At the plate he shows a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact through a line drive approach with power showing best to the pull side. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. At 1B, feet are active as he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. He works to square ground balls up, displaying clean hands as he makes the routine plays. Defensive grade will continue to improve as he increases foot quickness. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable.

04/07/2019 - Interactive Video Program - Billings, MT Shane is an athletic 2-way player who plays 3B and LHP. Defensively, Shane has quick feet, he moves smoothly to the ball, and fields in a square position. He presents his glove well, his exchange is clean, and he throws with momentum from a loose arm action across the diamond. On the mound, Shane has good balance, a clean arm circle, and he separates on time. He is aggressive in the zone, has a controlled landing toward home, and gets good pivot off his back foot. Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
